Illinois concentrates most of its radiology capacity in one corner of the map.
Chicago and the collar counties have the hospital systems, the academic programs, and the physician supply. Downstate is a different operating environment. A center in Quincy, Carbondale, or Effingham may be a hundred miles from the nearest available supervising physician, and that drive is the whole problem — not the scanner, not the technologist, not demand.
The critical-access hospitals serving Central and Southern Illinois can’t carry a full-time physician against the contrast volume they actually run. So a contrast-enhanced study becomes a routine same-day service in DuPage County and a scheduling exercise three hours south.
Virtual contrast supervision takes the drive out of the equation. The supervising physician is immediately available over a real-time audio-visual connection regardless of which end of the state the scanner is in.
ContrastConnect covers imaging centers across Chicagoland, the Collar Counties, Central Illinois, the Metro East, and Southern Illinois — including Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Rockford, Springfield, Elgin, Peoria, Champaign, Waukegan, Bloomington, Decatur, and Quincy.
